When everybody around you seems able to afford more
Godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
When everybody around you seems able to afford more. The situation may be ordinary, but the story you attach to it can shape the whole day. Relief can become more attractive than discernment when the moment is uncomfortable. Ask whether the response is wise, not merely whether it makes the discomfort disappear. Having more does not make you more valuable, and having less does not make you less loved. Jesus Christ remains Lord when the numbers make you nervous. You do not need a master plan before taking the next faithful step. Decide whether fear, habit, or Jesus Christ will lead the next response.
Which truth would change the way you interpret this moment? What would it look like to answer the circumstance with that truth?
Jesus Christ, I refuse to let a familiar pattern become my automatic answer again. Teach me a different response and give me courage to practice it today. Amen.
