When guilt makes you overcompensate

James 1:19

Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

When guilt makes you overcompensate. You can look completely fine on the outside while this is doing a number on you inside. The first feeling is not always the problem. The problem is what you let that feeling authorize. Fear can authorize control. Rejection can authorize chasing. Shame can authorize hiding. Exhaustion can authorize choices you would not make from a clear mind. Your child is deeply loved by you, but belongs to God before they belong to your expectations. Jesus Christ can lead where your control cannot reach. The goal today is not to control the outcome. It is to stay aligned with Christ while the outcome is still unknown.

What would change if you stopped treating this moment like a verdict?

Jesus, interrupt whatever is automatic in me that does not look like Your truth. Give me a clear mind, a guarded heart, and the courage to do the next faithful thing. Amen.
