The Counterfeit Conversation

By Jackie Overstreet November 22, 2025

How distraction disguises itself as help, then steals your next move.

Someone asks your opinion, and you give it freely.

You assume help, generosity, and connection.

Sometimes that is true. Often it is not.

Distraction is a cover.

It looks warm. It sounds interesting.

But it is probing, fishing for your next move.

When you speak, you are not only giving advice, you may be handing over strategy.

That is why the tactic is diabolical.

The enemy cannot read your heart, but he can watch the crumbs you leave behind.

You were taught generosity as a virtue.

Good. Keep it.

But generosity with boundaries is wisdom.

If they ask, they mean to receive.

That pleasant assumption can become exploitation.

Say a quiet prayer before you give counsel.

Ask Jesus Christ to guard your words.

Let your help be a cup, not a conduit.

Most people want to be understood. Most people do not mean harm.

Still, protect your plan. Protect your peace.

When someone is seeking to unsettle you, your best response is none at all.

Share this with someone who needs permission to be generous and guarded, at the same time.

Focus Point

Not every invitation to speak is an invitation to surrender your strategy.
