How a Ten-Cent Perspective Blocks Your Million-Dollar View
"Take the dime away from your eye, daughter."
My father said that to me growing up, and I didn't understand it then.
Now I do.
Starting late, starting over, losing all, falling again—it all means you can still succeed. But
first, you have to move the dime.
Here's what nobody tells you about delayed gratification: it's not about waiting. It's
about seeing.
When you hold a dime close to your eye, it blocks your view of everything else. The dime
looks huge. The world looks small.
But step back, and suddenly you see the dime for what it really is: ten cents blocking a
million-dollar view.
We live in a bigger, faster, stronger generation. Rather than pondering consequences, the
pressure to appear as if you have it all together has taken over.
If you're exhausting yourself to impress a bunch of people you don't know with money
you don't have, that's not winning. That's just not smart.
That's holding a dime to your eye.
They say a person's mind doesn't become fully developed until age 25. By this age,
you've acquired enough experiences to leverage your next decisions in hopes of making
better ones.
But here's the thing: if you have no foundation to build on, you're in a world of trouble.
By the time we reach a certain age, there have been things—both good and bad—that
chip away at us, looking to attach themselves to our identity.
Wisdom says to be aware of this. We are to be sober when making our choices.
"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)
The Soul Chisel is what's needed to chip away the debris from items that negatively
impact your life—things you thought you had to live with, things you didn't even know
existed.
Chipping away at items that work feverishly hard to distort who we are in Christ is a
must.
You have purpose, even if you don't know what it is. Just as God's word says He knew us
before we were knit in our mother's womb, so does the enemy.
To think we don't have a real enemy is insane. We do, and he roams about seeking
whom he can destroy.
But here's the beautiful truth: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, wants to be the lover of your
soul. This means being transparent with Him about whatever you're facing and simply
asking Him to open your eyes to what's ahead.
The dime is temporary. The view is eternal.
