Why Your Calling Requires More Grind Than You Think

Let's talk about all the things that come dressed in overalls and look like work.

Real accomplishments come dressed in overalls and look like work. Real work on you

mentally, emotionally, and spiritually comes dressed in overalls and looks like work.

But here's what most people miss: they want the results without the reality of what it

actually takes to get there.

We have an old saying: "Sweep around your own front door before trying to sweep

around someone else's." Yet people spend more time romanticizing what they see

others accomplish than understanding the grinding work that created those results.

They see the highlight reel and think, "I want that." But they don't have a true grasp of

what it would take to get into the grind to get that done.

This is where keeping up with the Joneses becomes dangerous to your purpose. You're

comparing your behind-the-scenes struggle to someone else's finished product, not

understanding that their success also came dressed in overalls.

When others try to present opportunities to you, often what they're really presenting is

just work. Hard, grinding, unglamorous work that will stretch you mentally, emotionally,

and spiritually.

The question isn't whether you want the blessing. The question is whether you're willing

to put on the overalls.

There's something beautifully authentic that happens when you learn to home in on the

particular talents and gifts God has called you to develop. But it requires embracing the

reality that your calling will demand everything from you.

I understand we live in a world that sells shortcuts and overnight success. Trust me, I get

it. But there comes a point where you have to follow that gut feeling about what the Lord

has predestined for your life, knowing it's going to require real work.

So many people say they don't know their calling. But if you're a Christ follower, the

foundation is clear: we're called to point people to Jesus by loving them like Jesus.

Everything else flows from that foundation.

Beyond that, here's what I've learned: that thing you think about all the time, that you

just can't seem to shake—pursuing it is going to come dressed in overalls.

People often dismiss their calling because the work seems too complex, too demanding,

too much. But God specializes in using "the foolish things of this world to confound the

wise." (1 Corinthians 1:27) He also specializes in preparing you for work that will stretch

you.

Often when we pray about things, as I've said before in other blogs, God is a gentle,

loving Father. But so many times people pray and expect the stork to drop off blessings—

not the stork, but expect blessings to just be dropped off and everything to be great with

no resistance.

That's not how God works.

"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to

the division of soul and of spirit." (Hebrews 4:12) His word doesn't just reveal your calling

—it reveals the work your calling will require. The mental, emotional, and spiritual

stretching that comes with stepping into your purpose.

You should have the audacity to believe you can do the hard work, even when it comes

dressed in overalls and looks overwhelmed.

What would you pursue if you stopped romanticizing the results and started embracing

the reality of the work? What would you do if you were willing to put on the overalls?

If you don't know yet, that's okay—we can figure this out together. But if you do know,

you're in the right place.

As this movement grows, we're creating a community that tells the truth about the work

required while supporting each other through the grind—relying on Jesus Christ and

showing others that the hard work is worth it when you're walking in His purpose.

Still exploring your relationship with Christ? Remember, "No one can come to me unless

the Father who sent me draws them." (John 6:44) If you're reading this, He's already

drawing you.

If you'd like to know Him for yourself, pray this: "Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I

believe You died for my sins and rose again. Come into my heart and be my Lord and

Savior. Amen."

If you're still exploring, that's okay too. He's a gentle, loving Father. Stay around, make

friends, open up. Community is good—the enemy wants us isolated, but you don't have

to live that way anymore.

You're in a safe space. Take your shoes off, kick your feet up, and welcome home.
