Why Faith Doesn't Remove Pain But Transforms It Into Purpose
"Faith doesn't remove pain. It gives it purpose."
I saw this the other day and it made me think about something most people get wrong
about faith.
Growing up as a PK (preacher's kid), one of the most frustrating things was hearing
people say "just have faith" when someone was hurting. As if faith was supposed to be
spiritual anesthesia.
Here's what they missed: we live in a fallen world. If everything was perfect, Jesus
wouldn't have needed to go to the cross.
Faith isn't about avoiding pain—it's about finding purpose in it.
Think about strength training. You need resistance to build muscle. What do you think is
happening in the spirit when we pray? God hears us, but He needs to make sure we're
able to carry what we've asked for.
"Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)
Over time, through discipline and understanding, He prepares our minds and hearts for
the things we've prayed for. The resistance isn't punishment—it's preparation.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is "our sun and our shield. He gives grace and glory. No
good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly." (Psalm 84:11)
Sometimes the most godly thing you can do is sit quietly with someone in their pain,
pray with them, and give them room to respond to whatever just happened.
The purpose isn't to eliminate the struggle. The purpose is to transform it into strength.
