The Scab

How to Stop Picking Emotional Scabs and Let Jesus Heal Completely

Here's what every five-year-old knows that adults forget.

Don't pick the scab.

But we do it anyway. With our hearts, our minds, and our memories.

Repent and forgive. The mere idea of thinking that you're making it better by holding

onto it is ridiculous.

Let it go. Let today be the day that you let it go.

You want to stop your mind from wandering and replaying what should've only

happened once? Stop picking the scab and opening up old wounds.

As with any physical scar on your body, relief comes when you can see that the wound

has begun to close up, and a scab is over it. Then you wait for the exciting day for that

scab to fall off.

Where there's some discoloration, as time goes on—most beautiful thing—the way God

designed our bodies is it begins to cover up. If you're lucky, there's no mark there at all

that there was ever an injury.

But sometimes there is. Regardless of whether you can see where that healed space will

be when you truly give things over to Jesus Christ or you can't see it, the fact of the

matter is it's been closed up. It's been sealed. It's been taken care of.

Imagine if you took that level of care with the matters of your heart.

Your heart is your mind. Your soul is your mind, your will, and your intellect. Handle them

with care.

I remember I battled so many different things, and it wasn't until I picked up a book

about the mind and how we have control over what we think. That was such an aha

moment to me.

This was many years ago, and I find myself still repeating that back to myself today:

"Why did you allow that thought to take up space in your head rent-free?"

When I gave myself this answer back, it was because it was all I had left of it.

I told myself, "You're holding onto it, but it's not holding onto you. Let it go."

I began to apply this in many areas of my life over the years, and it's served me quite

well.

I had to relearn all over again what it meant to lay things at the feet of Christ—Jesus

Christ.

I'm not telling you everything you've read about thus far is easy, but I can guarantee you

that it's worth it because it takes out all the guesswork. It takes out all the opinions. It

takes out all the "while I'm weighing this against other things that happened in my life."

No. There's none of your logic in there. There's no analyzing. There's no anything. It's

just pure, bona fide Jesus Christ.

My mind—I tell you what a joy, what a joy, what a joy you have in Jesus and what peace.

He's well capable, and His shoulders are strong enough to carry your burden.

Cast it over to Him today and watch Him work. Every thought, every ounce of worry,

cast it over to Him and let Him do His thing.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, never picks scabs. He heals completely, permanently,

beautifully.
