Why Iron Sharpens Iron Means the Friction Isn't the Problem, It's the Process

Proverbs 27:17 says as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Sharpening requires friction. Jesus Christ doesn't just surround you with people who agree with you. He sends people who sharpen you. And sharpening isn't comfortable.

Iron doesn't sharpen iron by sitting next to it. It sharpens through friction. Through rubbing. Through pressure. Kingdom living means welcoming the people who challenge you, correct you, refine you. Not just the ones who affirm you. The sharpening process feels abrasive. That's the point. You're being refined. The friction isn't the problem. It's the process. Let iron sharpen iron. Let people who love Jesus sharpen you. The discomfort is temporary. The sharpness lasts.

Are you avoiding the friction that sharpens, surrounding yourself only with people who agree instead of people who refine?
