The Father You Imagine
This article has been written by Jackie Overstreet

How your past shapes the way you see God
When you think about your heavenly Father, what image comes to mind?
For many, the answer is not theological. It is emotional.
If your earthly authority figures were distant, critical, inconsistent, or hard to please, you may unconsciously project that onto God. You may assume He tolerates you the way others did. That He stays near out of duty, not delight.
God is disappointed in me most of the time
The truth is this, God’s character is not shaped by your past.
Jesus Christ is King. He revealed the Father not as cold and detached, but as compassionate and near. Scripture describes a Father who runs toward prodigals, who calls us friends, who knows our frame and remembers we are dust.
If you struggle to believe God enjoys you, the issue may not be theology. It may be an unhealed memory.
Ask yourself honestly, when I fail, do I imagine God leaning in or pulling away?
Your answer reveals what version of the Father you are carrying.
Focus Point
Your perception of God may reflect your past more than His truth.
